INTRODUCCIÓN


Medellin is the capital of the Antioquia department, in Colombia, and is the second most populated city in the country.   Medellin is located in the nature region known as Aburrá valley, in the central cordillera of the Andes, establishing as the most urban center in such branch of  the mountain Andean group.
It extends both sides from Medellín River, which trough the city, south from north, and is the principal nuclei of the metropolitan area of the Aburrá Valley. Medellin was founded by the name of Our Lady Candlemas of Medellín in November 2 of 1675. Medellin was elected as the most innovative city of the world, in the context of the city of the year, which is organized by “The Wall Street Journal” and “Citigroup”. The Antioquia capital competed with New and Tel Aviv, the decision depended for a virtual vote. Medellin received a new event in the concourse “The Business Destinations “  organized by the Business Destination Magazine, 550 companies and business men, elected it like the best destine from suramerica to do business. Medellin is the most competitive city of Colombia, in the economic context, Antioquia capital displaced Bogotá.  We should note that Medellín, in this was the headquarters of the world urban forum, where a lot of countries came to show how to get better the habitat. Medellin is divided by 16 comunas, the comunas  are divide between neighbors and institutional areas.
The city has 249 neighbors and 20 official institutional areas. The main destinations include the Museum of Antioquia, Plaza Botero, the Pueblito Paisa, the International Convention and Exhibition Center Plaza Mayor, Carabobo Pedestrian Passage, Parque de los Pies Descalzos, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Basilica of Our Lady Candlemas, the Teatro Pablo Tobon Uribe, the Metropolitan Theater, the Explore Park and the Botanical Garden. Respect to natural sites, the most popular are the fly hill and Nutibara hill


A new natural area opened a few years ago is the Arví Regional Park, which has an area close to 20,000 hectares, comprising practically all the territory from village of Santa Elena, and extends between the towns of Bello, Copacabana, and Envigado. Meanwhile, in December, the city is covered with thousands of colored lights, creating the famous Christmas lights, considered by National Geographic as one of the world's ten most beautiful, and can be appreciated mainly in “la playa Avenue and  Medellín river.

Parque Explora -- an aquarium  and planetarium with additional temporary exhibits











Jardín Botánico - a botanical garden, great to just wander around, but don't miss the Orquideorama or the butterfly house

Pueblito Paisa (Little Town) is located on the top of Nutibarra Hill (Cerro Nutibarra) in Medellin. This replica of a typical turn of the century Antioquia town comes complete with its traditional stone fountain in the middle of the town square and is surrounded by the church and rectory, the mayor’s office, a barber shop, and a one-room school house. 

The Medellin Botanical Garden is almost 40 acres of outdoor space dedicated to orchids, plants, botany and nature in general. With an enormous wealth of flora native to Colombia, the botanical garden boasts more than 5000 individual plants with contributions from more than 1000 different species. 
The Museum of Antioquia (Museo Antioquia) is probably the most ambitious urban and cultural enterprise in Medellin. It has become a revitalizing element in the city center (El Centro), which for decades languished because of population expansion into surrounding communities 
planetarium. Since first opening its doors to the public on October 10, 1984, the Medellin Planetarium has entertained more than a million people in the city of eternal spring. Officially known as the Jesús Emilio Ramírez Planetarium, the project was conceived by the Astronomical Society College of San Jose under the leadership of Daniel Julián González Patiño who is a renowned scientist, astronomer and botanist from Colombia.



Parque Arvi is a new ambitious project just outside of Medellin that will create one of the largest nature reserves in the region. The recent attraction is yet another boost for the city of Medellin that has recently undergone a complete transformation and is now attracting travelers and tourists from all around the globe to see the city of eternal spring.
