Medellin is the
capital of the Antioquia department, in Colombia, and is the second most
populated city in the country. Medellin
is located in the nature region known as Aburrá valley, in the central
cordillera of the Andes, establishing as the most urban center in such branch
of the mountain Andean group.
It extends both sides
from Medellín River, which trough the city, south from north, and is the
principal nuclei of the metropolitan area of the Aburrá Valley. Medellin was
founded by the name of Our Lady Candlemas of Medellín in November 2 of 1675.
Medellin was elected as the most innovative city of the world, in the context
of the city of the year, which is organized by “The Wall Street Journal” and
“Citigroup”. The Antioquia capital competed with New and Tel Aviv, the decision
depended for a virtual vote. Medellin received a new event in the concourse

competitive city of Colombia, in the economic context, Antioquia capital

Parque de los Pies Descalzos, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Basilica of Our

Explore Park and the Botanical Garden. Respect to natural sites, the most
popular are the fly hill and Nutibara hill
A new natural area
opened a few years ago is the Arví Regional Park, which has an area close to
20,000 hectares, comprising practically all the territory from village of Santa
Elena, and extends between the towns of Bello, Copacabana, and Envigado.
Meanwhile, in December, the city is covered with thousands of colored lights,
creating the famous Christmas lights, considered by National Geographic as one
of the world's ten most beautiful, and can be appreciated mainly in “la playa Avenue
and Medellín river.
